i got an insurance quote today out of interest. As much Id love to get back into a D4 i just cant justify the cost changeover at the minute so its just for interest purposes.

took a registration number off an autotrader ad for late 2014 HSE D4, and put all the details into the meerkats. Got the cheapest quote back from Admiral (who im actually with at the moment) at £730 fully comp with legal, windscreen and for what its worth courtesy car.

Lots of other quotes all sub £850

Put the same details into the LR insurance pages and they refuse to quote.

bizarrely my d4 is due to renew in 2 days its actually £2 cheaper than last year coming in at £334 with Aviva had similar quotes from the meerkat so stayed with Aviva

the wife's d3 came in at about £280 up from £180 last year neither drivers have changed in any way but it would seem a 2005 d3 is more risk than my 2013 d4 this year Rolling Eyes go figure

Surely there is a discount if you fit the MI6 vehicle theft deterrent device…
On the grounds that, that particular thief will not be able to ever steal again.

I blame the lack on proper parenting… if my parents ever caught me touching something that wasn’t mine…. I can still feel the back hand!!

unfortunately in this country the criminals get all the help/pity and the victim's get nothing and if you confront/stand up to the crims you end up in jail because in this country you are expected to roll over and have insurance to get back what was taken from you Censored that's what's wrong now as no one takes responsibility for the things they do but just make excuses for doing it Mad Censored

That’s good advice. That’s why I always use a double press on the door handle locking button when I park rather than using the key fob. No signal to block that way.[/quote]

Please explain what this mystical monkey magic you speak of. Press the door handle button twice and sleep better? I need to know. Me and the dog are currently sleeping in the car most nights so that its there for SWMBO in the morning. That my story....

Haha. What I meant was that I never use the button on the key fob to lock the car. I use the button on the door handle. Pressing it twice to secure lock it. Obviously no more secure, but avoids the signal jamming situation that was being discussed at the point I made this comment.
Stay safe ! Hope you've got a comfy mattress in there.
Cheers

I've disabled the auto unlock as per this post.

Just lock/unlock it the old fashioned way with a 2nd press of the fob to double lock.

I've also got a disklok on the steering wheel.

Just playing with numbers… by volume no that belongs to the Fiesta but by number against the number sold definitely yes.. I think the accolade belongs to the Velar…and then various models of RRS..

Interestingly enough look out for both Kia and Hyundai over the next few months…this is the latest peak…

The stats are based on per 100 thefts (DVLA) which to a certain extents is self fulfilling. If all vehicles are roughly the same difficulty to nick then the high value ones are going to be the better target. Then to source the data from the DVLA skews the figure. Low value low security cars are more often joyriders which may be recovered. If the insurer then writes it off is it recorded as a theft?

JLRs figure works out at roughly 1 in 1000 sold for the latest model which as a different method of calculation means the comparison is meaningless

jLR seem to be contradicting themselves, or throwing away money. If Landrover theft isn’t a problem, why are they paying the Uk border police £15 million pounds to help with extra searches at the ports to stop stolen landrovers being smuggled abroad??. Would have thought the money could be better spent stopping them from being vulnerable to theft in the first place Confused

You could see this as a + for JLR. If you make the best car in the market then this is going to be the most desireable for the criminal fraternity.

Is the solution to back up all this electronic security with something mechanical? What is astounding is the speed which a suitably equiped thief can defeat the gadgets and each time a new one appears it doesn't take long for a workaround to be found.

The trouble is at this end of the market people want convenience, I don't think the average Range Rover owner is going to accept the suggestion to fit a stoplock but anything which takes time get past is going to put them off. Perhaps a secondary transponder that requires the key to be docked before the CANBus port will be active

I do smile when I go to our local leisure centre. In the car park is see a "W" reg little red shopping trolley type car complete with peeling clearcoat, it has a full cover Disklok type steering wheel lock.

.....and easy.....

One of the reasons I moved away from BMW in 2015 was a targeted theft because the BMW had some weakness. I think the X5 was top of list for 6years.....now its not in the top 10 (and the G05 model is a much better car)

Weakness?? Not sure about that. Technologies are always maturing and changing. Its just a matter of time when some scum of the earth sorts out how to crack it.
And I am with some others, I have absolutely no interest in a process where I need to flick that toggle, pop the hood, get out a wrench, apply an 8 digit code and tap head twice, to get into my vehicle and go for a drive.

Root cause analysis: I still blame the parents for supporting poor behavior. And the all mighty greed card for supporting the bad behavior and turning a blind eye.

How about this for a radical idea.

Why not have a key operated lock that without the key the car won't start.

Damned, I should have patented the idea before publishing it Shocked
