Yes the loom is about and inch thick. Unclick all of it. (Pull hard) each time you meet a securing point.
You will chase the loom back to the area of the centre console. At that point you have around 18” of loom to relocate to a place of your choosing.
The organised crew that arrived to mine did not break my window, they had already opened the Disco prior to walking on the drive. Must have used a remote signal repeater?? He spent a maximum of 45 seconds trying to plug to the OBD. Once he realised it wasn’t there immediately left.
Don’t underestimate how little time they want to spend doing this. Put yourself in their shoes. They are used to plugging in and driving away all inside 1 minute. The moment anything deviates from that they will be gone.
Do yourself a favour and spend 5 minutes ensuring yours isn’t one of the easy ones.

They will just move on to another victim, the neighbour up the road who doesn’t read this forum and Nick theirs!
There is some evidence that some crims deploy signal jammers prior to the theft… these effectively drown out the signal from your key when you leave your car and try and lock it on the fob.. this is especially common in car parks and retail parks… this is why it is imperative to watch your mirrors fold back and your indicators flash…
If they can block the signal and the vehicle remains unlocked then it is easier for them to operate… open the door , no alarm and then plug in…
Security needs to be considered in layers.. don’t rely on one thing…

It’s also worth remembering what happens to these cars! Yes some do go for export, the majority are slaughtered for parts but with D3&D4’s a lot of them are just recycled into the second hand car sales market..
Unfortunately due to the engine issues when some go bang the car is often no longer viable to repair or the owner can’t afford it.. this leads to a great influx of ‘ cheap unrecorded salvage’ with cars sold cheaply for spares.. this gives the potential for a criminal team to utilise the identity of the scrap car and swop it onto a stolen vehicle.. It is really common for the identity of a D3 to be used on a stolen D4.. and the seller just states he has given the car a facelift…
This is also common amongst ourselves whereby we put later lights etc on our earlier cars.. most on here would spot them immediately but most members of the public will swallow that story and think they are getting a bargain..
So moral of the story be careful with what you buy!
The best advice I can give re buying a JLR product privately is trust your instincts.. never buy from a convenient meeting place, always do the sale on the kitchen table of the seller and make sure that is the same address you are at that is registered on the log book…

my loom does not go towards the centre console, it comes from the door pillar side of the car - and definitely can't be unclipped.

That’s good advice. That’s why I always use a double press on the door handle locking button when I park rather than using the key fob. No signal to block that way.Gary

Staffs Police have recovered a stolen D4 - turns out it was stolen from the Met Police!
Never seen a Black Pack Landmark with blue lights on the top...Must stop buying shiny toys....

it was probably nicked from the met police area who maybe shared out the theft on their social media so Staffs plod are just tagging Met plod2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

It's not a scam, but I believe at the moment only vehicles built between 2018 and 2022 are eligible for the upgrade, late 2022 onwards have the latest security anyway.

Also, there is a video out there showing that the latest updates have already been circumvented!

I used to have a quick-remove steering wheel fitted to my Defender... If I parked it I took the wheel off and took it with me..
I also had a remote fuel cut off.. (IIRC it was a Tecalimet one) It would allow it to start but once the fuel in the line ran out it konked out after about 30 years.. My Ex got her car stolen in Glasgow.. but It was abandoned at a set of Traffic lights a few yards down the road!

Getting a Ghost 2 immobiliser fitted Friday. It will bring down my insurance cost too.
That's interesting. Churchill said that whatever tracker I fit will not reduce my premium so I didn't bother.
Direct Line wouldn't even insure me! (Hertfordshire, not 'London') I get that new car owners struggle to get insured without having a tracker fitted but I thought spending £5-600 quid (which is how much my premium went up this year) on a top-end Thatcham approved tracker/immob would offset my premium increases each year but apparently not...
