Hi Russell thanks for your report, good stuff
Interesting re the width, could it be I'm looking at overall including door mirrors? Did you notice if the D5 had smaller mirrors? Peter

I made the trip to Solihull this morning to see the new Discovery and found out a few things I'd not heard mentioned before:
The new 2.0 petrol ingenium engines will be making their way into the D5
Service packs will be available
Press will get their hands on the cars at the end of Jan at Eastnor
No one has seen the non-signature rear lights yet (S and SE models)
HSE seating has contrast piping but not contrast stitching
I thought the car was stunning in the flesh and the interior is a massive improvement.
Only saw 4 different colours - farallon black, silicon silver, corris grey and Fuji white and thought the darker colours looked better.

I was wondering about the rear lights, as I'm looking at an SE spec but I may add adaptive headlights (£380) which adds the signature rear lights. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Sorry, have I got that right.... you now have to pay extra for decent looking rear lights?
It's now clear - this car is squarely aimed at one clear market, and most of them drive Audi's !!! 2005 D3 HSE

In all fairness, BMW have been getting away with that little ruse for years. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!
(One of only two known to exist in the world!)

No you don't have to, LR don't make you do anything. It's just if you take adaptive headlights it comes with signature rear lights. There is no other option to add them, and I wouldn't pay for them on there own. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

It all depends on the deal my salesman comes up with, I went up and had a chat with the view to cancelling, I've told him what I'm willing to pay a month if it's well out the ball park then it will be cancelled no matter how good the new one is.
Plus I would rather try the new one and see for myself if it's going to be suitable for my needs, as I do have dogs so want to try this event platform thingy. So it's far from a done deal at the moment, though I do like the look of it I'm still sitting on the fence at the moment. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Thinking about that event platform and dogs - I've seen vidoes showing it extend when a button is pressed on the dash. Presumably there is a button in the tailgate area somewhere so you can extend it when you are standing at the rear with the tailgate open?
