Not sure why we are comparing the D4 to the FFRR in a D5 thread
I think because having seen the D5 and the comments in this thread, some might be thinking of a FFRR instead.

because we have a D5 section 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

^^ and also due to the fact its the replacement of the D4 and a logical place to talk about upgrading, the proper D5 section is where those who bought one can winge and whine about it. 2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

Since the aborted DC100 project, there's been nothing at all. There's not even been much activity from the fiction factory at Auto Express (I'd have thought that they'd have dreamed up something by now), which is very odd. So, Lord knows!2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

^^Im surprised really, don't think LR have had much to do lately TBH, I mean, it not really hard work cloning cars is it, they could have actually spent some more time on the Defender in the mean time and come up with something that Defender lovers will actually want and got some cars on the road for testing.2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

Why do you think they are not working hard on a new vehicle that will fill a gap created by the demise of the Defender? In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Andrew, despite what i am saying im sure they are, i just hope its better than what they have just released thats all, it would just be nice to see something out there really, just some form of spy shot in the distance. Im just hoping they are not going to give up on that type of vehicle after the dropping the DC100 , i know the replacement will have huge boots to follow but I just have lost a lot of faith in LR lately and think that they don't want to make, as some would say, another up.2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

The gap is surprisingly small and unlikely to generate profit.
While it was undeniably "iconic" and despite the final blip in in sales numbers, this car has been selling in penny numbers for a long time. Vocal enthusiasts buy old Defenders (not new ones), while nearly all of those that used to buy new Defenders have long since moved on to an array of far eastern alternatives. Dealers are no longer set up to supply and service their most traditional customers either.
Should they decide to re enter this market, they will not only be doing so from scratch but they'll be entering a market that will expect discounts to compete with the likes of Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi and even the likes of Great Wall. For a company now used to selling high value, high margin cars to people with money, it must be difficult to put together a convincing argument to spend large amounts of development money in a hurry.
Alternatively, they might use the brand to build another variation on a modern leisure 4x4.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Thank you for pointing that gem out, it's the first I've seen! Their intern must have been busy again
To ensure that we treat their predictions with the respect they deserve, here's a wonderful piece of their quality journalism, giving a really nice indication of what the new Discovery Sport will look like, from a year or two before its launch

I went to the Visitor Centre at Lode Lane yesterday to see the New Disco. A well worthwhile visit and as a result, I will buy one when they become available.
So I've seen it, sat in it had the technical explanations and met the Project Manager who incidentally is also Project Manager for the New Defender which I thought was a pretty large portfolio. He was very tight lipped about that except to say that it had moved a long way technically from the Concept Car shown a couple of years ago. I pushed on the subject of mules but he just smiled.
PS For anyone who is going and hasn't been before, don't go into the Visitors' Car Park on the right of the entrance road. Go straight to the Main Gate where you will be directed to the Valet parking crew at the Visitor's Centre just inside the gate.Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
