It was interesting that during the recently cabinet meeting at Chequers the news footage of the escorted cars showed they are still using D4s
Have meetings over in government buildings and noticed they are still using D4's a lot. Two in the carpark I use were armoured I wonder if they are waiting on armoured D5's to change the fleet?
Why would they want to change? Maybe they’ve stock piled a few D4 Landmarks, just like the police did with the last of the line SD1 V8’s in the mid/late ‘80’s?2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

The latter looks more flattering and for me flattery is welcome. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

That would have made a lot of sense to them - if not necessarily for the rest of us
Did Vauxhall ever sell a single civilian Senator? (And no, ”unmarked” Senators don’t count!)2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I think you’ll find it’s more to do with cost! Given the risks involved certain members of Parliament are transported in fully armoured vehicles. The cost of these new are prohibitive and they take a considerable time to make....
Tooling up and subsequent testing a new model obviously takes time and therefore you’re unlikely to see an armoured version for some time after model release...
Due to cost these vehicles won’t be replaced on a whim just because there is a later version out... they will be replaced after they are no longer cost effective...I.e through mileage / servicing costs....
The police are primarily interested will the car do what is required for a duration... and the overall running costs..including initial purchase price and subsequent resale value.... this is the reason why a few years ago silver vehicles were being purchased and battenburgs applied...
The commercial deals with manufacturers have always been there... hence the SD1s...The Met bought up all the unsold stock and then equipped them for service...all different specs and colours... it would not be unusual to be driving a basic spec one one night and a vanden Plas version another...most had been resprayed white over whatever colour they originally were...
The car that survived the most punishment possible without breaking down believe it or not was the humble Metro!

I drove 1K miles to Austria this week for the annual ski trip. Saw one D5 at folkstone, two D4's on the way down, the resort doctor has a D4 and a 110, and I've seen about 20 Velars in total!

Fast forward, to 2018 and people are asking for over $70k for these now 3 year old vehicles with 25k to 55k on the clock!!!!!

I would love to support them. But why should I when they have pretty much given many of us the two fingered salute. In this day and age, it swings both ways and there are some very good alternatives. Gone are the days that LR commanded the 4x4 seas. And still with no sign of the Defender launch either ...
Been stalking on the D5 forum and it seems there are still niggly issues with the D5s. I feel really bad for the owners tbh. When they have stuck up for the brand, overlooked the nappy-looking concussion-making rear end and forked out a small fortune on something that really doesn't warrant the price tag, they are still dealing with a pee-poor customer service and lack of answers/help/solutions. They are on a contact loop back to the service department.
We have had our first three families at the school jump from the Disco ship. Gone from D4 to a very good looking Audi Q7, an F-Pace and a Volvo. It is only a matter of time before others will.My16 HSE Landmark - 2016 - Current. Indus Silver
