With The Donald intending to slap a 25% tariff on European cars JLR vehicles won’t be cheap after that for discerning soccer moms and wannabe thugs and drug dealers (RRS ) in the US...

Been stalking on the D5 forum and it seems there are still niggly issues with the D5s. I feel really bad for the owners tbh. When they have stuck up for the brand, overlooked the nappy-looking concussion-making rear end and forked out a small fortune on something that really doesn't warrant the price tag, they are still dealing with a pee-poor customer service and lack of answers/help/solutions. They are on a contact loop back to the service department.
Yes there are still issues but look back at when the D3 was first launched and the issues associated with that, then when the first D4's came out and the issues with them
As for other makes, look at BMW and the issues with engines there and they are far less forgiving or supportive to their customers
As for Audi, friend has a Q7 that was coming to end of warranty and required a few bits doing Audi refused all of them under warranty and put it down to wear and tear things that LR have covered under warranty for customers
Sp to summarise, yes LR are not great with some things and there are niggles with new models, but so there are with a lot of other makes who don't seem to be as customer focused as LR MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange
MY15 D4 HSE Kaikoura Stone
MY12 D4 HSE Nara Bronze Sold and gone
MY11 D4 HSE Stornaway Grey Sold and gone
D3 S spec Silver Sold and gone
Tow bar, full length roof bars, side steps, tow bar storage unit, surround camers.

One area that JLR lead the pack by a considerable way is their continued support for older models, going back many many decades, and their recognition that there is a significant club and enthusiast following. D3 07 SE - still going strong
D3 07 HSE - gone to car heaven
FL1 - gone to Romania
D3 05 HSE - gone to a divorce diet
D1 V8 manual - gone but not forgotten
RR Classic - gone to car heaven

Agreed. On the rare occasions that I’ve had a problem LR have really gone the extra mile (with the exception of the D4 surround camera issue, but at least I knew what to expect with the cameras in my last D4!)

I was at parents evening last night and whilst waiting for my youngest cherub amongst the herds of D3 / D4s, RRS, FFRR and DS, I've noticed that we have two D5 at school, six Velar but interestingly four new SsangYong Rexton's all horse people who were previous D3/4 owners.
I spoke to one of them who said that they bought the Rexton because he was fed up going back and forth to the dealers for repairs, the shocking LRCS and the ridiculous price for the D5, which the family didn't like. Apparently it tows the horse box well across all terrain, is very comfortable, has a five year warranty, was less than half the price of the D5 and does 90% of what the D4 did equally as well.
As an alternative to a D5 the Rexton does look attractive on paper. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)
New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!) Sold
Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)
No longer the Old Buses original owner
231,000 miles and counting
05 S manual owned from March 2005
D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres
IID BT
BAS FBH control

No, no, no! You’ve got that absolutely wrong!
We will all grow to like the styling, we will all be buying them sooner or later and they will sell loads. I’ve read it here and these Rexton buyers must all be a figment of your imagination!
Would I buy a Rexton to save a shed load of cash and get “something similar”? Absolutely not, but a lot would / will / have already done so... 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

From Autocar:
Quote:There's no denying that, on the road, the Ssangyong feels a little archaic. The last equivalent body-on-frame car we tested was a decade-old Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Rexton barely feels a generation removed from it. The uncanny body shimmy, like a jelly fish haphazardly tacked to an oak tabletop, is unmistakable on any surface, at any speed.
The ride isn’t ruinously bad – given time, you adapt (regress?) into the Rexton’s gambol, and merrily loll about with it – but anyone switching from a monocoque-bodied SUV will wonder at the untidiness of it all.
The steering follows suit; over assisted into weightlessness, it needs be cranked almost to a half-turn before it will finally oblige. A quicker setup or better directness would hardly be appropriate given the Rexton’s structural reluctance to swiftly change direction, but the logic of it doesn’t prevent every junction becoming a necessary blur of palmed on and palmed off steering wheel input.
It’s probably for the best then that you never approach one carrying too much speed. The 2.2 diesel isn’t the cheapest to run, with the manual returning an official 36.2mpg, which is 2.0mpg better than the auto.
Around you the interior is large and chunky and also stranded in the plastic and appearance of yesteryear. It’s reminiscent of the kind of low-rent Korean effort that Kia and Hyundai used to crank out before they invested their way to acclaim. Seats six and seven are clumsily packaged beneath a raised boot floor too, but in comfort and capacity, they are strictly for temporary accommodation.
To be honest, it sounds horrible. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

How many lives shattered. How much blood will spill, until everybody does what they were always going to have to do from the very beginning: SIT DOWN AND TALK!"

Well, if you consider it from an investment point of view - suppose you get something for half the original budgeted cost AND that something is roughly equivalent to the thing that was originally intended to be purchased at the original price AND both options do solve your (business) problem... why wouldn’t you make the choice which increases your return on capital employed?
The real end customer (= horses) most likely don’t care if the vehicle is pulling their trailers from Solihull, Stuttgart or Seoul

Cars unlike, for instance, toner cartridges are not bought entirely rationally, especially as they become more expensive. If we bought our cars rationally, we’d all be buying the same Toyota Corolla.
What ever we may say about leg room, or boot space, or service intervals, we mostly buy with our hearts. Ultimately, we pay much more than we need to for something that doesn’t entirely fit the bill, because we like it. It’s hard to like a Ssangyong. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I have just been to look at Ssangyong’s website. Is it the car without any Estate side windows? Is this their attempt at a 7 seater? I can see some car sickness issues here
Could it be classed as a crew cab van? I wonder if rear windows are an option? 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
