Had a very relaxing cruise down to Devon from London. D3 felt totally at home munching the miles and it's the most comfortable I've felt doing a long drive.
One thing I have noticed is that on braking from 70 the steering wheel is shaking and can be felt quite strongly. Hoping it's new discs and pads needed on the front bit will worry about that when I'm back.
I had the same issue and discs and pads cured that.

Thanks. A visual inspection does show a fair bit of wear so that might be it.

Had a very very frustrating day with the Disco mainly down to time I had put aside for upgrades being totally wasted!
I had fitted some replica 2014 LED lights from Powerful and due to a poor finish and incorrect operation of the fog and reverse lights I've had go take them off to be exchanged for replacement units. Car looks so meh with the standard lights back on!
The main problem cane as I had bought D4 style painted wheel arches from Powerful pre painted in Java Black and have accumulated all the correct end caps and fixings to fit them and update the look of the car.
It took a while and a few online videos to work out what to do so whipped of the front grill and moved the head lights out if the way and set about removing the drivers side arch. First off I was amazed how much dirt, leaves and other debris fell out from behind the front mudflap area and under the top of the plastic arch piece itself. I will not be out putting the mud flaps back on. The first was soaking wet and I am amazed there is no rust that has shown through yet. It's worth saying the brackets for the mudflaps had basically rusted through and were being held together by dirt!
Arch removal was ok but the replacement parts were pattern parts and after much struggle I could not fit all the fixings back on. The plastic parts were too thick and would not accept the clips so fitted what I could and moved on to the end caps. I spent about an hour here and after butchering one end cap gave up as it just wouldn't fit. Annoyed at this stage (about 2 hours in and should have been finished) I put the old arch trim back on, removed the other front mud flap and the changed the rear lights again. The passenger side had even more dirt behind the mud flaps. I'd recommend everyone does this once a year to protect against rust. I'll drop Powerful an email and see what they say but I'm going to push for a return and buy some D4 arches and get them painted.

After a bit of back and forth turns out I was missing the front wheel arch caps and the ones I was trying to fit were actually for the rear. Missing caps sent out and I managed to get the fronts done yesterday. Looks really good now and I'm happy I went with the D4 fitment instead of getting the D3 arches painted.

Hmmm have just accepted a new job which means a 60 mile commute each day. The D3 gets about 26mpg so that probably wont work. Will a D4 do any better? Cannot compromise on the amount of space and comfort the D3 offers!

Keep the D3 especially after all the work and effort you have put in. Get a cheap little run around for the work commute. Little 1.4 tdci Fiesta. Nothing to run and about 60 odd mpg plus £20 rfl a year 2006 TdV6 HSE.

I use the "Road Trip" app to track my car expenses and on my 2016 D4 I have averaged 26.97 MPG over 12,686 miles since March 18.
On a long night run using mainly cruise control set at about 72 MPH, I will get a real 30MPG but never seen higher than that for a long motorway journey.
Hope that helps.Dorian Woolger

Well job fell through after a tasty counter offer from my current employer so D3 stays.
It was about time to throw more money at her so met Bodsy this morning for a gearbox flush and a few software updates. All completed quickly with no fuss although I now know I have a slight weep from the gearbox, my FBH does not work and I need a new propshaft donut!

Was very lucky to win an rear tailgate handle on a famous auction site and when it turned up it has a D4 rear view camera fitted all for less than it was going to cost to get my old one painted! Result
I watched a video and set to work but the 4 lower torx bolts will not budge. Looking at the new one it three are totally stuck and the only one that moves feels like it is spinning in the brass thread.

IIRC if you undo everything else the spinning brass bit get left behind when you pull the handle off the boot door.
