My view: I think you should take his offer of a refund and run away from this, and try and find another D3, a much much newer one. One months car tax bill (£50+ ISTR) is a lucky escape.
You have to be honest with yourself, it would appear you want a D3 badly, but if you're scooting around the second hand market at those prices/mileage you probably can't afford to own one, certainly not one that's not going to be a money pit / massively unreliable.

I feel that you would be strongly advised to accept the offer from Jordan Stilp and move on.
Difficult I know.

Or just repair it.... pfff....
Let the seller, give you some goodwill regarding your offer.... on the suspension.. sound reasonable to me, i would take lets say £500 and repair it yourself... then you have control on how and what is repaired..
As said earlyer... £4000 is not a bad price... spend another £1000, or 1500 even 2000
What earlyer is discribed regarding the overall state of the motor... it should give you a even reliable motor, as a “newer” one... nobody gives you The guaranty that another is hassle free afterca few months every thing regarding D3’s is old, they all are...
Younger is not always beter regarding overall state... one with a few issues “done” (suspension, brakes, oilpump and belts, would give me more peace of mind than a younger, with issues ‘to come” in a few years.. etc..... you allready love it a little, make it safe and enjoy it..
Everybody “his” opinion... everybody “his” budget..
we can have opinions, its your love (or pain) and your money...
Just my view (last time )Best regards
Harold

Harold that would work for me. I just want to get her fixed.
Landrover have agreed to assist with the cost of repair as a goodwill gesture. If there is oil in the servo.
Belts and pump to be done ASAP as they are due and factored in when purchased.
She's in very nice condition bodywork and interior. We don't have oodles of money, but husband very handy around a spanner.

That is what i read between your lines earlyer..
The seller reads this... if he is a gentleman and have some proud, it would be a nice gesture to offer a neat partial refund for some repair costs...
Saves him effort, time and money, he cleared his name in the LR community and you are happy...
Trust comes slow, and disappears very quick.... everybody who wants to buy a used LR, googles and will find this public readable forum, with his name.... could be worth somethingBest regards

It must be rare for a private seller to offer full refund, even more so for it to be declined. Time will tell if this is a regrettable decision.
Previous MOT 31/8/19 Advisories
Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
general under body corrosion
Last V5C issued on 6/1/20 to registered keeper number 6, certainly not just two owners.
On a positive note, many jobs on a D3 can be done at home to reduce maintenance costs. I'd say Mr Marsh has a new project.Chris

It's not a private sale, but let's not go down the legalities, I've asked for assistance in repair.
I bought the car on 19th Jan, I have have new V5c, so the ownership records can't have updated yet. I am owner number 7
I saw the oil leak, on a few previous MOTs but noticed it wasn't on the 2020 one, so hoping it's been done (neither was the corrosion from 2019 now that I've looked again, can that be a bit subjective to whoever is looking at it?)

In my opinion lack of advisories on MOTs means nothing, I guarantee the corrision hasn't been 'fixed'.
In my experience of looking if its bad enough that someone has advised on corrosion for the stuff you can see without removing plastic covers etc then the stuff that you can't see will be much worse (sills, boot floor, inner chassis etc).

Hi all, I hope I'm not going to bore you with this last update. I thought Harold floated a great idea yesterday, so I put it forward.
Anyway, it was a big no 🤷🏼♀️ He just wants it back and will refund.
So I was stuck with my stubborn side shouting "fight fight fight" as I'm still pretty peeved, and the other side thinking "stuff it, just keep her, repair her, hope for the best" because life is too short to be talking to Citizens advice every day, with home schooling etc, and my husband is getting the hump, he just wants to know if he is going to work on her or not. Plus I've already christened this Disco Diva "Diana" So she's here to stay. Crazy in some of your minds I'm sure Husband went straight out, head lamp on, bonnet up and blanked the EGR valves off. Going to be booked in with LR tomorrow.
Thanks for all your comments, great as always, hope this post wasn't too long! 🤓🤪

couple of things from me
Don't understand why you are not getting your money back, plenty more decent motors out there.
I wouldn't be posting my thoughts on here especially after the other party is also here now, these things should be private
