agreed and the depreciation curve flattens off more as you go along as you say alternatives are pretty limited. its either a full ft RR or a new defender next i think and i doint like parting with my hard earned so am struggling to commit to the outlay when my D4 gives me everything that i need ..just gutted the D5 wasnt the car aethetically that id hoped as they are old enough now to be a viable cash jump but alass its a munter so thats a no MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

Exactly where I was at, Mark
Re: D4 prices, when I traded mine in with the dealer I had fully expected to have to sell privately to get what I wanted for what was such a mint 60 plate D4 with relatively low mileage. They offered me what I wanted straight away plus also let me remove all the kit on it to sell privately. D4 prices definitely strong, as are all second hand vehicles apparently driven a lot by long delivery times of new builds which is having a trickle down effect (so I'm told)D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

It’s great the values are so strong.
But what are you going to replace it with if sold?

I reckon the prices have started to slip in the last couple of weeks?
No scientific data to back that up, just me looking at late D4 HSE Lux with sensible mileages

After 20 months and 18,000mls of trouble free motoring I decided I wanted a change as I was finding the tech in the D4 a bit dated. I sold it to WBAC for £1000 more than I paid for it in 2019 so was very happy with that! All done and dusted in 20mins. Was looking at an L405 as a replacement but the cost to upgrade was just too much for me to justify paying out thousands more and only getting the same year and probably higher miles to boot. I then started looking around to see what else was available for the money as I wanted to keep 4x 4 but didn`t need the 3.5 T towing capacity. Also as my daily commute is only a 10 mile round trip then another diesel probably wasn`t a great idea.
I had looked at the Volvo XC60 a few years ago when I was looking to replace my Freelander 2 but bought a Discovery Sport in the end. I test drove a new shape XC 60 T8 hybrid at the weekend and was blown away with it! The tech is light years ahead of the Discovery even although it is only 2 years newer and the surround cameras have such bright clear images and include a super impressive birds eye view. When driving I could not tell when it was running on electric and when the 2 litre petrol (Supercharged and Turbocharged) kicked in. Seriously fast with over 400 BHP! Like most cars now most things are now controlled via the touch screen which can mean more actions to get some thing switched on but the tablet style screen seems super responsive and the satnav is full colour and is also repeated in full colour in the dash. Pick it up in a few days! Can`t wait! I will still lurk about on the forum however!
