Well China's current version of communism certainly seems to be working extremely well if one assesses the country by capitalist metrics. It's rather amusing that the US sees itself as the great economy and yet it's basically sold itself down the river. Yes, some people are making lots of money but it's an ever growing divide between the top end and the bottom end.
At some point, the US will collapse - probably because the Chinese or the Russians finally decide to "turn off the internet". I don't think it'll be too long before we see massive outages in connected systems in the west. They've been playing around at it for a while now and some of the trials have been quite informative. I bet every important computer system in the US is infected with a Russian or Chinese trojan. The US (and the UK and others) will pretty quickly fall apart if those connected systems are severely damaged.
It's not just for internal control that the Chinese and Russians have their own internets. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

It's no surprise. There are always the haves and the have-nots, no matter what the political system. All systems aid the few at the expense of the many - the difference is how those various systems are sold by the few to the many as being in the interest of the many. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Apropos this, read today https://www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2021/...et-cables/. I have somewhat of a professional interest in submarine cables.

My point was that in that respect China is no different to or better than the US or the West in general. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

No voyagers are flying into Kabul 😉.. only A400M, C17 and C130's.... my crew alone on an A400 have brought back over 900 Afghans to the UAE, its is a very humbling experience when the little kid are saying thankyou and waving at as as they get off.

Well informed rumour (but only rumour) that flights in to Kabul curtailed this morning and 2 Para are involved with a heated dispute with the Taliban.

There are a lot of Taliban and they can close the airport meaning the troops there are besieged should the Taliban wish it so. They have a lot of kit left by the Yanks and only need a handful of ManPADS to close the airport to flights. As fine a bunch of soldiers as the Paras are, they can't fight long without support and resupply. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Pretty sure they can close and disable the runway with a few well targeted 60-120 mm mortar rounds, really. Reach for 60 mm is in excess of 3000 meters on a good day and the 120 mm ones can be shot from 3x distance. All should be available locally since they’re basic infantry kit for the us military and were issued to the local Afghani army.

Remember the Russians were there from 1979 to 1992. They suffered 15,000 dead, many more casualties. From 2001 to present, the US, UK and others in coalition have suffered 3,500 deaths. The Afghans/Taliban are far from inexperienced in battle/gorilla warfare. Most grew up knowing nothing else, it’s in their blood and they believe in their cause. I wouldn’t under estimate them.
