Oh, and forgot to say. We leave Hawaii on Sat and crossing the Int Date Line has been seriously messing with our minds. We’re going to loose a day!!! Still getting used to the fact that the next place isn’t 3 hours behind, as we’ve been thinking, it’s 21 hours ahead! We had a bit of practice crossing the IDL today but not sure it helped!

And yes, that does look like sunshine, and no, we didn’t have the sunscreen with us! We’re both just a little frazzled with noses that Rudolf would be proud of.

Crossing the IDL really does mess with you! We did it the other way, flying from Fiji to LAX so we gained a day. Where was Bill Murray when you need him Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Good to hear, though not sure that helps much!
Yep good pics. Apparently there are lots of buildings / hangers still with bullet holes in them and also the glass. You can even still see them on the runway in places.

The dateline is a fake... I stood on that for ages when I was there but didn't have a single girl come up and ask me for a date! I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Luckily that didn’t happen to me, SWMBO wouldn’t have been impressed. She’d have her very surprised though!!
Re bullet holes, here’s some though the consensus seems to be they were from friendly fire when a flight of navy a/c tried to land at night and nervous soldiers opened up on them. Only one aircraft made it and most pilots killed.

Now this is what’s really messing with our minds, if you go up to the N Pole and keep running round and round anti-clockwise do you get any younger?

I think you know this but it’s an x-band radar for the ballistic missile program.

I didn’t know that but do now, now got to watch out for black helicopters flying round the hotel!! Always amazes me seeing places like PH or Hickam, usually on GoogSatView, how much “stuff” our American cousins have. What we saw at Pearl couple of days ago (destroyers and attack subs) is prob equal to about half the Royal Navy, well the half that’s not back in harbour with dodgy running gear. Mind you Hickam was a disappointment when we flew in, just one KC-10 and one C-5. We’re on the flightline out of there and have seen a KC-135 (looks like the rudder pin fix has been done as they were grounded recently) and another pair of F-35s. GoogMaps promises so much with 3 x B-2s sitting there!
Last batch of pics from Oahu, unless we see anything of interest that is. Yesterday was “another day, another Cobra”, this one in the Army Museum just down from our hotel. Nice little free museum and at last a military history museum that isn’t showing off defences against we Brits. And no mention of the 1812 and 1846 wars, both of which didn’t go the way they’d hoped.

This pic has our hotel in the background, we’re up on the 38th floor hoping the lifts keep going!

And a sand sculpture from the Royal Hawaiin Hotel, a step up from our Holiday Inn Express. Not staying there or partaking of lunch, just nipping through it to the beach.

Today was off to Diamond Head Park and a bit of climbing up to the top for old bunkers and views. On the way almost bumped into Magnum, the new one, though he has a lot more hair on TV cf this chap.
A view from DH Park back into the crater, Bit of hot & sweaty hiking to the bunker complex at the top but was worth it.

Waikiki in all its high rise splendour!

And yes, rainbows means rain, luckily we managed to take cover in the bunker when it chucked it down.

Now this could have a multitudes of meanings, incl kiss wifey and she returns home and you pick someone up, bit like the date line. And again SWMBO would have been a bit annoyed, but way more surprised!!

And finally a trio of pics from the NE corner of the island. Booooooooootiful colours colors.

Kind of got to the stage of Hawaii = ticked, looking forward to moving on.

Next move involves this bad boy, and a 10hr 20m flight. And we were up at 04:30 to get the shuttle to the airport. And the puggin lounge isn’t open, even though it’s supposed to be included in the ticket! Grumpy, moi?

And we’ve got to contend with getting in tomorrow, which is really today, in UK time it’s getting in day after tomorrow, ie tomorrow!

Tis indeed Sydney and G’day Cobbers, as I think they say here!
Long flight from HNL to SYD, really quick getting into Aus ( to their systems) and a fast train to Circular Quay for the hotel.
Nothing much to note at Hickam going out apart from half a dozen C-17s, similar number of KC-135s and three (from what I saw) F-22s in the Zulu Alert sheds. No pics of those, not coz of national security interests but we were on the lhs of the a/c and they were on the right.
Consolation prize was a KC-135 following us out to the runway.
Nothing much of interest on the flight, lots of clouds as seen through the heavy tinted windows.
And a really cool atoll somewhere out there. Just don’t tell China or they’ll have dibs on it.
First sight of “that” bridge from the train, the one that looks suspiciously like the one in Newcastle. Now that’s me upset the locals.
And not too bad a view from the hotel room. Once someone shifts that building in the middle that’s spoiling the view.
And from the lounge. Lots of Navy out there.

It’s good to be back, it’s 3 years to the week that we had to cut and run back to Blighty, cancelling the booking here in the process. In the words of Independence Day:

Glad you made it back. I was looking at google earth after you posted the Jetstar plane picture in Hawaii, just checking the route to Aus. Just a lot of water between the two!
