OK, can of worms opened
So all I am saying as that "out of politeness" it would be an idea to donate and amount (not a fixed percentage) for using the forum to sell. Even if you sold it for a cheap price to the benefit of others here... so give just a small amount... it all adds up.
We've all seen people suddenly pop up selling something and then promptly disappear from the forum - not good.
If you donate on a regular basis and feel you don't need or want to donate post selling something, then that's fine in my book.
ITS UP TO EACH MEMEBR TO DO AS THEY FEEL IS RIGHT
There are no rules to this other than a little respect and understanding that the forum costs money to run.

I still disagree with the idea of everyone selling making a donation. A lot of people offer kit on here at a discount to the Disco3 community rather than selling for market value on ebay or similar. There is an expectation among many on here that anything sold should be done at the lowest price, leaving little scope for a donation.
So make it a small donation

I make irregular donations to the site via paypal, donations at the SE meet, donations from the sale of bungs etc. I also recently gave away a wheel in exchange for a site donation and bought something from Mounty where he received no money, the whole amount going to the site.
Cool... so whats the issue ? I am expressing my annoyance at people who DONT donate chap.

No other forum I've belonged to has asked for or expected donations for selling items, most of them making their money from shop sales and advertising. What makes this one so different?
Well as you know, many people here donate (inc you mate) to help towards the costs or running the forum and to say thanks for being such a great resource. I'm not sure if the Shop here 'makes' money or not, I don't actually care TBH. That's not what I am getting at with this thread.
There is always a choice to donate, there is not 'rule' about donating.
I just personally feel that its just plain respectful and polite to donate if you've managed to make some cash out of the forum. Sure people could put the items on eBay and open the selling up to the whole world. This would of course take away a good chance for any of us here to buy it, but it also would cost the seller to sell it.[/quote]

Si, you make a strong case, but I'm also a member on a few other forums, none of which require a "donation" to remain an unguilty member.
One of them has a rule that you have to have a poust count of at least 50 before you can post in the for sale section. This stops the casuals from popping in never to be seen again, or the traders taking advantage of a free facility.
I attended the last SE meet and am happy to contribute my tenner into the pot. I'll never drink a tenner's worth as I'll always be driving but that's the established etiquet and all is good for me there.
Perhaps a sticky thread on "forum etiquet" would be a good idea then at least we would all know what the score was. If a site donation was the done thing at the end of a transaction or whatever, then at least the individuals concerned would be able to make an informed choice, then at least they can deal with thier own concious if they decide to opt out of the donation bit. I'd reckon 10% is a bit steep myself. I reckon most people would be happy to bung a fiver over to the site without a problem. 100 people chucking a fiver is surely better that a few donating more?
Also, It might be worth putting up another sticky as to what's available for loan to other members.
NoDosh and myself have both offered roof boxes. This might be worth the other members knowing through another method other than the search facility?
No point in getting stressed over it fella. If "we're" not aware then how are we supposed to know what the score is?Welcome "Lola"
I think that rather than a donation for a sale which is a simple function of a forum, people should be willing to make a donation for just being on the site and for the information they receive.
If all members were happy to donate a couple of £ each a year, it would amount to a fair amount of money.
I agree with that...BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.
Some very valid points/arguments made here about donations. I think it's only right to make donations to a site that you gain something from, even if it is only a feeling of being part of something. A fiver here and a fiver there along with donations for organised events is fair enough. If you sell something or borrow something, then a respectful donation should lie on your conscience, and your conscience should dictate the amount. BCC, NoDo$h and several others have offered to loan me a roofbox (thanks guys) so I will morally donate something to this site. Not because i have to; not because I feel obligated, but because I feel I have gained something and saved money (in this instance) so therefore my morals suggest a thankyou.
The idea of a thread thingy with items that people wouldn't mind loaning might be an idea, however, it's a difficult one as if someone asks to borrow my trailer that have only just signed up to the site, not participated in anything and have 2 posted messages, I'd be inclined to say 'No' which may create discourse. Better to ask and wait to see if anyone 'wants' to loan 'it'.
Membership Fees? Hmm, difficult one for all the reasons Slimer said. We 'make' the forum; we don't own it. There's no shares, no limited company etc.. Membership fees would bring their own nightmare for Martin et.al.
Don't be paranoid.........'They' don't like it!!!!!!!

Wot I am saying... but some seem to think this is a load of krap.
One we can discuss over a pint (I'm buying ). I'm reading my posts and they aren't coming across as I intended (unwritten rule of the written word.... )I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I think if youre putting something in and getting something out then why not make a donation. Many would be happy paying £20-£30 a year for a car mag or house beautiful or whatever so why not here?
I think it is probably only a small minority who come on the site, everyone off buying nothing from the shop (and effort/money goes into that) then selling stuff for free and still not donating.
There certainly shouldn't be a set fee but what you feel is fair.
Other people of course also offer services to D3 members that they wouldn't offer elsewhere.Global Warming.... I'm luvvin it

It would help if folk knew what it did cost to run ....... virtual world has no visible price tag ,unfortunately.
The minimum number of posts before being able to sell is a valid idea, but could restrict good offer to members. how about a 10% donation for posters below 50 or something similar, and leaving donations up to the member if their posts are greater.
