What is it with some people ?
They use this forum to sell their stuff and make no mention of a donation... and then some that do, fail to actually donate
If a buyer gets a good deal via the forum from another member selling via the forum, then they can make a choice to donate as a thanks.
A seller if nothing else (no matter if they offered the goods for a low price or not) should out of politeness donate an amount no matter how small to disco3 as a thanks.
If they can't be arsed to do so, then they should go to eBay and pay some faceless American's a commission for selling their goods.

No... and thats the point DD
I apologise to people now if they take offence... but it es me off that recently people seem to think they can sell stuff and not recompense the forum for providing an audience to sell to.
I must admit to not making as many donations as I should. (Will rectify that now that I'm working again)!
People will come in and make use of our 'facility' but it is ours!
We, ( I mean our Mods), can exclude them if we wish, but it is still our site (because we participate) not theirs.
Let them come in and show there wares.
The internet is an open marketplace.
If we don't like what they are selling/saying then we don't buy or we switch to another thread.
Just like the telly!

Simon, how do you know who donates what and when? The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

I agree that a donation should be made, whether it's for a sale or service that has been gained via the use of the D3 forum. Without the forum that contact would not have been made, or the selective interested audience reached so easily.
If we have a gentlemans agreement in the private for-sale section how would that be policed. On many forums they charge a small fee to post in that section. Not sure that is how we wish to go, as it would wrankle up some of the auld timers.
A 10% fee, IMHO is the standard 'tip' that should be considered. Just to back that up for the member to member contacts I have made on here I 'tip' more than the 10% as it's work I would not have achieved otherwise.
While there are no forum 'rules' in place it should also be aknowledged that folk are free to donate what thay want and free to take advantage of the current setup.
An interesting debate......discuss

I just feel its polite if nothing else to say a thank you is all. You'll have seen my comments on other threads too... one of them prompted the creation of this thread.
And of course everyone is free to donate or not.
Formalising things is not what the site is about which is a good thing.

I don't think a standard 'fee' is appropriate. If you sell your D3 on here for £30K, would you be happy giving a £3k or 10% fee to the site?
It needs to reflect the value of what is being sold. 10% may be appropriate for lower value items, but not for all items.

Why not? Obvioulsy being sold on here where everyone already has one is a last resort as no-one else wants it. So surely 10% fee would still earn more than a stealer would offer to buy it in.
A typical cheapskate statement if ever i heard one.
Only kidding mate. So what do you suggest for a sale of a D3. something to undercut fleabay commission ?? £10 backhander ?

Having sold a few cars privately over the years (I hate trade-in - you never get a fair deal), I think it usually costs about £15 for a local newspaper ad, whether you sell it or not. I sold my las Disco on fleabay as a classified ad. That cost me the listing fee of £13.14 on a £12K car sale.
I would suggest for a car sale (or anything of a value over £1k) an advertising fee of £10 would be fair and perhaps an additional £5 if it sells via this site. For anything else, any donation would be up to the advertiser, and would depend on the price of the item and the cost of postage, but obviously anything from £1 to £10 would be fair.
I still disagree with the idea of everyone selling making a donation. A lot of people offer kit on here at a discount to the Disco3 community rather than selling for market value on ebay or similar. There is an expectation among many on here that anything sold should be done at the lowest price, leaving little scope for a donation.
I make irregular donations to the site via paypal, donations at the SE meet, donations from the sale of bungs etc. I also recently gave away a wheel in exchange for a site donation and bought something from Mounty where he received no money, the whole amount going to the site.
No other forum I've belonged to has asked for or expected donations for selling items, most of them making their money from shop sales and advertising. What makes this one so different? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I think that rather than a donation for a sale which is a simple function of a forum, people should be willing to make a donation for just being on the site and for the information they receive.
If all members were happy to donate a couple of £ each a year, it would amount to a fair amount of money.

calm down man!you will give yourself a thrombo
top idea bout site/membership fees though, would be glad to pay,why not, other l/rover "clubs"do it so why shouldnt we.good god in this day and age if you can afford to run a d3 then maybe a tenner a year would be no skin off your nose.
dunclife is tooooo short.enjoy the moment.dont worry be happy

We're not a club for starters. As soon as people start paying fees for a service they expect something in return, in the case of clubs that's often a say in how things are run. Donations are simple, you choose whether to donate or not and what amount, there should never be any pressure to donate, though I do agree that if you make some money via the site that you wouldn't have done otherwise a small token of thanks to the site wouldn't go amissThe End
