The ACC switch pack does include all the standard CC switches with the addition of the two extra distance adjusting ones and so technically can be used even although you do not have ACC fitted to your D3.
I actually did this on my D3 as i was attempting to retrofit ACC.
However physically you will have a problem that you can either live with or solve in a number of ways.
The problem is that the Main and ACC PCB's you will be replacing as part of the conversion are connected together via a blue ribbon cable that is soldered in at both ends.
When you remove the ACC PCB there is then nothing for the membrane to mount onto.
If the membrane is not present the switches will flop around, maybe even rattle and the push rods will not stay in place.
You could glue them with something like silicone, find something to act as a flexible packer, cut the ribbon or desolder it and use the existing PCB just to mount the Membrane or also purchase the ACC PCB from BBS and do a complete conversion, which at least will also give you a back light to the switches.
I hope this explains the situation and gives you some possible options

Thank you for the fast reply,
If I desolder the ribbon and mount the membrane on the PCB I will just lose the lights to the distance +/- switches?
If I do the complete conversion with the AAC PCB I will have lights on all AAC switches?- Is this likely to cause any faults elsewhere?
The wheel is heated with a switch which I may connect at a later date, will this just unplug on a ribbon and leave me without a light until it is connected? It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Re using origional cut or desoldered PCB will be fine but simply have no back light
Fitting the BBS ACC PCB will give you backlight and give no faults anywhere.
If you have a heated wheel, switch and the BBS Heated PCB you can happily leave it all plugged in without problem.

I have now bought a RRS my2012 heated clock spring(LRO 18556) complete with indicator/wiper switches, can the switch pack be used on the D3?
I'm starting to get excited now , I never thought this conversion would happen and foolishly gave up reading the seemingly never ending post about 6 months ago and consequently missed all the excitement and offers
I take my hat off to you Colin and all at black box-solutions well done It can when others can't,

Which switch pack are you referring to exactly
I don't blame you for getting excited
The Steering wheel is the one part of the vehicle that you actually use and see the most.
For all the many mods and upgrades I made to my Disco 3, by far the best was fitting a new smooth steering wheel that was only topped by a new smooth D4 Wheel and switches.
Maybe it's just me, and perhaps others might add their views and opinions here, but i never really got on with the Rocker switches of the D3 and so did not use them much.
However I constantly use the Circular 4 way switch on the later switches as it just seems so intuative and natural.
Left / Right for Jumping tracks or restarting them and up and down for controlling the volume.
I just dont have to think or look. My thumb finds the switch independent of my eyes and memory and presses it in the requisite direction
I am sorry this project took so long and got to the point where you lost hope, but at least folks can see and read just what effort it took to do this and see it through to conclusion and can now enjoy the results of all my hard work and effort for themselves.
It's not really until you see and fit these that you really get to appreciate how much effort went into it.
The outline shape alone is increadibly complex and has to be spot on for the membrane to fit on them like they do on the origionals. There are dozens of holes that have to be precisely sized in in precise positions. The Touch pad and other parts placement like the LED's is also super critical.
Not surprizingly, many recognise them as works of art
And also as you read here, even after launch, the Paddle shift circuitry especially, is a real juggling act that stretched even my experience of electronics well out of my comfort zone.
So many thanks to your donning your hat, it is certainly much appreciated

Finally Fitted - one very happy D3 driver :-)
Big smiles all round as I managed to find a couple of hours in my hectic life to install the kit, along with the new flappy paddle D4 steering I have been looking at the boxes in the office for a month or so
As many have commented, the replacement PCBs are excellent quality and a perfect fit. Everything went smoothly, but given that scotch-locks are the devils making, and should only be employed for emergencies, I soldered my connections to assure longevity of connection and minimise the risk of spurious actions.
A quick test drive proved everything worked perfectly and as it was at dusk, I could even see the illumination was a perfect balance to offer indication and not look garish glare.
The only thing I would highlight is that once you have engaged a gear selection with a flappy paddle, it remains in manual mode and does not revert back to automatic after a period of time, unlike my A3. A quick flick of the gearstick recycles the system ready to hit a paddle in the future, should you choose to retake control. However, that would really be the icing on the on the cake and, in the grand scheme of things, it pails into insignificance when you consider the phenomenal lengths Colin and his team have gone to in making this a fantastic piece of retrospective integration.
Colin you're the man, thank you

looks the right setup to me, get stuck in there and get it all fitted, watch the position of the clock spring, make sure it is in the middle rotation position or a snapping will occur FFRR SC 4.2

What you have there is not only the clock spring but also the plastic mounting frame for it which also mounts the two stalk switches that you also have. Electrically the stwlk switches have nothing to do with the clock spring and as far as the conectors are the same, you should be able to use the stalk switches too.
But as robbo770 states, you would need to just try fitting the stalks and see.
But also as he states you need to be sure that clock spring is at its mid rotation position.
New ones have a bit of plastic fitted that locks them and I would expect used ones to have a bit of tape on that not only ensures they are not moved while off the vehicle but also shows that the remover understood the importance of this requirement

Glad you finally got round to fitting this, it certainly does put a huge smile on your face
Many thanks for your kind comments and appreciation of our efforts.
Christian will certainly appreciate your noting the results of his quite significant efforts at the last minute to sort the Back lighting out.
As with even what should have been simple and straight forward thing, this was also an aspect that took huge affort and he and Grant working together briliantly overcame the problem of there not being a suitible single correctly coloured LED avaliable that had previously thwarted me, by fitting two LED's, neither of which were the right colour, but jointly, with having different resistors that affected their intensity and a huge amount of trial and error, produced the right result. Although I do take credit for having designed the PCB's with the option to fit 2 LED's in the first place
Re your observations about the paddle shifting functionality of this Versus OEM paddle shifting.
In Sports Manual mode, even the OEM version does not automatically return to Sports Auto mode after a period of time. IE S1, S2, S3 etc does not automatically return to just S, It does however in Manual Tiptronic mode D1, D2, D3 etc it does self return to just D.
Both can however be done with the OEM setup by holding the Right paddle for about 3 seconds.

I agree with Colin, the absence of tape suggests an unsympathetic removal and the risk that the fragile ribbon cable may be damaged.

Fitted my D4 steering wheel this weekend too.
Swapped out the circuit boards, screwed the back cowl on and made sure the switches were down.
Airbag off, disconnect the wiring plug and undo the big bolt in the middle ( holy cow that was tight. Had Mrs Narpy pushing the old steering wheel whilst I swung on the ratchet ). Fit the new wheel, plug it up and refit the airbag.
Nice and easy mod. Mods:
Front Fogs + Halos

D4 Steering Wheel.
Rear Boot Spoiler.
