I agree with Colin, the absence of tape suggests an unsympathetic removal and the risk that the fragile ribbon cable may be damaged..........
I have not received the clock spring yet, still in the post. Is it easy to check if it is centralised?- is there a procedure to centralise it?It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

There is an alignment window on the front face but it is not always obvious which way to wind it to align it if it is a full turn out. If it has yet to arrive perhaps the person sending it did take precautions and you may find it has been secured correctly.

Thanks, hopefully I will find out today, it is discribed as being professionally removed.
On your photo for center should half the ribbon cables be on the centre spool and half on the outer? It can when others can't,

Cheers to all for your kind comments
Seems it's been quite the weekend for this modification
Great piccy Robbie
I always wondered what they were like on the inside
M3DPO:
I do recall having seen some instructions on a clock spring once, something like rotate clockwise to the stop and then go back something 2.25 turns to centre.
But Clockwise is a relative thing, which as Robbie says does not make it obvious which way to wind it etc and my figures are not exact or vehicle specific.
Hopefully the replacement will have some sign of being kept at centre, but as you will be removing your old one at centre position, you should be able to carefully turn this either way by hand until you feel resistance, keeping count of the turns and translate this to the replacement

The clock-spring has been delivered but there is no locking tape on it, there are two arrows that are lined up, there is also a white marker visible in the window, in this position it will rotate 4 1/4 turns right and 3 1/4 turns left, it cannot be exactly the same either way as nothing will line up including the spigot that fits into the steering wheel. Thanks for the idea of measuring the state of the existing one I will check that tomorrow.
I am a little surprised at the lightweight cable and plugs/sockets that are used particularly for heating elements, they must be very low watts. It can when others can't,

Although I cannot totally validate that this is totall correct myself and hopefully someone will have some more positive and hands on feedback, it does sound about right.
You will have much more validation when you check against your existing one that you will know was removed at true centre, but you need to be very careful not to lose positional reference on that and get all confused .
Another aspect you can now throw into the equation is just how many turns left and right can you make on your D3 steering wheel from centre before other factors find you at full lock?
EG if it is only 2.5 each way you are laughing.

I have now fitted the clock spring, but have still to connect the heated wheel power from the cigar lighter socket.
For reference to anyone else fitting a SH clock spring, both springs (the new one and the one on the vehicle) could be rotated clockwise looking at the spring as mounted 4 1/4 turns clockwise, 3 1/4 turns anti-clockwise, this also positioned the century rotary part on two arrows embossed on the unit, there is also a plastic window showing a white plastic marker in it, in this position the wheels are central pointing forwards, the clock springs cannot be set up equal left and right as the steering wheel would would be off centre to the right.
The manual states 3.32 turns of the steering wheel lock to lock.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

almost done
working on installing the D4 steering wheel I realized that the D3 cable in the steering wheel (from clock spring to new buttons assembly) is different compared to the cable required for the D4. So I had to revert all changes and reinstall the D3 steering wheel until I can source the correct D4 cable

Lucio, if you're selling your flappy paddles, you will need to replace your steering wheel cowl too.
If you advertise your paddles, sell them with the cowl and obtain an unblanked cowl from somewhere else.
Good luck with that, cowls WITH holes are like hens teeth. Mods:

IIRC the little wiring loom that connects both switch packs to the clock spring actually comes with one of the switch packs, but is also available on its own and LR022150 does seem like the right item
First Dibs on the switches and cowl if you are selling them Lucio. In which case i would have a standard cowl to PX. I have Pm'd you
