I have so far resisted posting, but many have jumped to the conclusion that the club is in some way meant to be a new forum to replace Disco3.co.uk, which it isn't. It is also disappointing that people decide to start being personal without actually waiting to find out the full story. I am part of the new club and although not a founding member I was recently asked if I would be interested in being part of it.
I would like to say that a club is not a forum, the forum is a by product of the events and discussions, which the club will generate. Just because it is D3's doesn't make it competition, there are Defender clubs, but also a Defender forum !.
Currently if somebody books a site for an event, social gathering etc, then it is normally arranged by a single person or perhaps 2 people. That person then has a financial and moral comittment to that event and it is a lot to organise for one person. In a club it can be run more effectively with a group of supporters rather than quite often just one individual. The scale of organising events can also be increased with more resources in the club. One thing, which is a constant issue is liability in the event of an accident etc. Nobody can have group liability insurance unless they are part of an organised group with a known membership with the associated rules etc for the members. This is something, which differentiates a club from just a forum, they are NOT the same.
A club also elects the people within it, so to say it is run by one person is rubbish and there is no doubt that people acting for the club will change from time to time. The financials of a club means that details of income, expediture are clear for everybody in the club to see, there is nobody making money. Somebody said people don't do something for nothing, well that is wrong, do you get paid to help at Scouts, do you get paid for doing events for charity, are you suggesting the events run on here to raise money by members are actually done for personal financial gain - NO. I do plenty for people and charities, which I don’t get paid for, maybe I am stupid I thought that was human nature when your dealing with friends.
There are over 10,000 people on this forum, of which only a small percentage are interested in events, social gatherings, so why do you think a club will compete with this forums 10,000 International members, when clearly the purpose of the club will not appeal to a large number.
The club was not a secret, it was not underhand, there is no club on disco3.co.uk and neither was there an intention for one to be started on this site. As for the club, do you think that when Land Rover start to build a new car they tell everybody and ask any potential buyer to quickly go to the factory and test drive it and comment before testing it themselves to be sure it works at a basic level. The same applies to clubs, you don't create it in one day and announce it . You need to get the basics together and and tweak it to make sure it does what it needs to . That requires a small number of people to try it. It was not the chosen few, it was people taking the time to create the the framework of the club, which has to be there in order for it to be developed by future members based on feedback.
As for your childish comments DG about the circle of trust and you have been "monitoring" the site for a while and your signature, it was never hidden otherwise how could some on here have found it so easily and taken great pleasure it cutting parts of it and posting here. You were extended the courtesy of asking questions about it before it went live, but you chose just to create an issue, which was not there in the first place. This was both surprising and disappointing for a representative of this website. I have never been banned, nor have many of the others, so why think it is a break away group who are upset with this forum and throwing their toys out of the pram.
I fully intend to continue being part of this forum and also part of a Club, the two are not mutually exclusive. If the people on this forum think they are, please let me know and I will refrain from posting and just become and observer.
I am sorry this has caused so much of an issue and clearly upset some, it was not the intention, the intention was to work in harmony but to create bigger, better and a wider range of events for those who were interested. All this has done is try to make people choose one camp or the other, which is just ridiculous. The Club is something in addition not instead of this forum and has different aims.
If Martin has no issue with it, why do so many others.

I don't have anything to do with registering on the forum, but I can't see why not.

Look, I have no issue with the CLUB, and since its launch I have watched and seen people register one by one. Have read the CLUB statements it is offering a NICHE that fills a void on this forum.
Now this issue I have is the way I feel regarding the banishment. I chatted to Neil many many times by Mobile, Pm on FREEL2, and via other non banned members. I fought with mods and Martin and had posts edited, and really pushed my luck personally with them.
I had No idea this was happening till Saturday am, and to be honest feel a tad let down by Neil, I will get over it but it seems I was being used by fighting his corner all the time he was setting other wheels in motion, and using this forum as a method to setting wheels in motion. Like already stated, if Martin is happy then none of us should make further comment, cos I wont be........................
Now I do wish the NEW Club all the best, it offers something I dont need so I for one am happy where I am, but would like to say I hope Sara Dudman recovers speedily, a broken leg Not Nice

Eh are you sure you have your facts correct there CW. There was a "circle of trust" which I personally found quite hysterical ...and I have never said it was hidden ...although be honest.... it was not accessible from your club page and therefore technically hidden. I have never been consulted on the formation of your club or invited to ask questions at any time. I have never said you were banned, I don't even think I have uttered a word about you.
I think it's a breakaway group because of what I read on your website much of which has now been removed from public view.
Apart from my tongue in cheek comment about your 'circle', I have actually taken the time to wish the club well on two occasions. Maybe that was a mistake. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I posted earlier in this thread that I would have been surprised - not neccesarily in a good way by use of one one of these , if I had turned up to Hogmoor (I was trying to shift commitments to enable it) to find it was a breakaway "club" organised on the back of this site.
On reflection, now that their site is live it is apparent that it has been on the radar since early Feb or perhaps earlier in construction.
OK, from a not so frequent poster, more of a lurker, all the best to them then
Live and Let Live, I hope that it succeeds, it cant take anything away from here as here is massive already Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"
I would Reply:
