Surprise surprise my new to me MY 2016 has the 3 deg over reading issue. Guess I'll just have to put up with it until the first service is due.

This instrument cluster problem must also be affecting my MPG read out as it won't budge from 25.1
Will point out this and my 3 degree diff on the first service!

Our MY2016 D4 HSE had the software update about 3 weeks ago and I assume a number of members' D4's have now had this upgrade.
It has corrected the displayed external temperature but I'm not sure that the climate control system is operating more effectively.
Lack of cold weather has made it difficult to check operation under a wide range of conditions, for example to determine whether it has reduced the amount of cold air coming out of the fixed windscreen and side window vents when it is too cold inside the car and the system should be heating.
However, during the current spell of warm weather our impression is that 'climate control' is a misnomer - attempting to maintain a comfortable consistent temperature in the car requires frequent adjustment of the set temperature controls, the amount of air coming out of the circular adjustable vents and the fan speed. 'Auto' does not automatically control temperature automatically - seems more like the 'air conditioning' on the entry level models of some much lower cost vehicles.
We also note that much of the time when the system should be cooling the vehicle interior on 'Auto' there is lots of fan noise - makes conversation more difficult and driving more tiring - but no discernible air flow out of the fixed windscreen and side window vents or down towards the driver or passenger foot wells. There only appears to be air flow out of the small adjustable vent below the steering wheel and the four circular adjustable vents if they are open - and the glove compartment does get cold!
We had no problems with our Freelander 2 which was simply set and forget on 'Auto'. I keep reading the the D4 manual thinking I still haven't understood how the 'Climate Control' should work.
I would be interested to know 1) what changes others have noted after the software upgrade and 2) whether owners of MY2015/16 D4 find 'Auto' works in both hot and cold weather.
Thank you.

GN, that sounds very much the same as my experience of my last one (Nov 15 build) being "fixed", which seemed to amount to little more than a correction of the display temp.
My replacement (March 16 build) behaves far better, and deserves the 'climate control' description.
I can't for the life of me understand why they seem unable to properly fix the affected cars. Earlier and later ones are ok, so...
My suspicions eventually centered around the dash top temp sensor (front / center of dash). What happens if you cover that with a cloth or something, whilst the AC is misbehaving?Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

Thank you DaveT for the quick reply.
I'll try covering that sensor next time we go out to see what happens. I know I need to take the car back to the main dealer for further investigation - but the more tests I can perform and the more info I can give then, hopefully, the greater the chance of a fix.
Good to know that 'Auto' can work on some D4's!

What a very interesting post from Galway Nickel.
Although I still have to have the software update, Galway Nickel's comments mirror my experience with our MY16 D4, also to those relating to the Freelander 2.
I hope that there are some more replies to his request in his final paragraph.

My dealer has made no attempt to contact me about the software update as promised and I ain't chasing it up, it's due its first service in September so I will see if they update it then.
I'm intending to replace the Disco next year with either a D5 (jury is still out) or a used FFRR L405 (highly likely)23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

^^^ good luck, you may need it! Mine went in today for a service and a 'few' other bits and bobs, the dealer called me back to say there is nothing wrong with the temp display as they have compared it with another Discovery and both are reading the same, 19* 8) (very nice if it was that warm) I said that mine appeared to over read by at least 3* compared to other cars and a thermometer and that I 'believed' there was a software update to address this? It would appear not as the workshop manager would know this from TOPIX.
Q. I've had a look for the relevant TSB but can't track it down over the 30 odd pages, does anyone know it off hand? The dealer did ask if I had the information available but I said I hoped they would have
Help!!
(curiously enough I got a Disco sport loaner and its display read 13* when I drove it away, my Disco was showing 16*)

The incorrect external temperature display is a known problem for VIN range 777507 - 813795.
The relevant software update is contained in LTB 009.

I took my MY2016 in for a check over yesterday and mentioned the issue with the climate control. For me, when I start driving the car, the climate control works fine but after 30 minutes, it starts to get colder and colder, and I have to crank up the thermostat.
The service department found a June 2016 technical services bulletin which they showed me but didn't let me keep. I have found it on Topix but I don't have a subscription. This is the one;
"LTB00963 - Interior Cabin Temperature Cannot Be Set To Desired Setting"
Does anyone have more information on this? The fix is to repair the insulation of the air con piping behind the dash and was a bigger job than could be done on the day so I've got to go back.

As discussed in my earlier post in this thread (26th June) the software update has 'fixed' the external temperature display in my MY16 D4 - but the climate control system is far from satisfactory and I know other members are still having problems, sometimes despite many return visits to their LR dealer.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be very pleased if someone could post or email the contents of this recent TSB so we could have some more insight.
Unless someone has a dealer who has found the fix to cure all our problems and can reveal all ......
