Added a Union Jack flag on the grill instead of a LR one. Also took a pic of the paint in the sun so you can appreciate Lugano Teal in all its beauty. šŸ˜šŸ‘Œ

Replaced two door latch modules. Didnā€™t bother diagnosing deeply what the problem with them was beyond the fact that they did not reliably lock the doorsā€¦ and when they did lock they didnā€™t always open on the first try. I guess the modules I removed were originals. Picture of a new one below. Do note that all door modules have separate part numbers.

Treated mine to a full service, timing belts and new oil pump.
I am lucky that i have a two post ramp, the starter motor was a real pain to move out of the way.

My car last had the belts changed a LR dealership and i was suprised to find that i couldnt get the timing pins to line up the crank was just over half a tooth out, i was also told that they replaced the oil pump at the same time. I was a bit suspcious as LR dont normally replace the oil pump, so i picked one up just i case.
I was right the pump had never been replaced, the two cam pulleys had never been loosened as far as i can see unless the tightened up innthe exact same place as before.
The jobs been done properly now and i can sleep safe knowing the oil pumps been uprated.

I have done a number of D4 rear belts before and thought my D3 would be easier, i was wrong. I struggled to get two hands round the back of the engine due to wiring looms and actually find D4's easier

Air con compressor

Saturday fun. Big Cry

So, after a couple of weeks looking at the compressor in the box, finally ran out of excuses and had a go..

Managed to fit and even had time for a regass.

Read on the WWW. a guy who fitted one in 1.5 hrs. Bow down After fitting one that is either very impressive or his watch stopped. Exclamation

Body off for crossover pipe šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø As mine had gone at the weak point Couldnā€™t believe how dangerous itā€™s been until I saw how hot these things get without the cover or insulation on. Mine had been changed prior to me buying the car but brackets not fitted. Genuine Land Rover one going on with brackets. Check out the belt cover lucky it didnā€™t go up in smoke.

Good day today, changed the rear diff oil (thanks to ridgeback_moorā€˜s write up), didnā€™t get chance to do the front but looking at what came out Iā€™m guessing the oils vintage 2008?
Hoping the slivers on the drain plug are cumulative since then

Looks about normal, how many miles has your car done? I would be more worried if you have metal particals in the oil.

Just coming up on 98k so ā€œlow mileageā€ Smile very much doubt itā€™s ever been changed, so after 13 years Iā€™d expect to see a few shavings. Iā€™ll do the front hopefully on Monday so expecting about the same.

Fitted a working / reversing light to my rear ladder. Iā€™ve double switched it so I can switch it on from the rear for working, or from the centre console on the handbrake panel if I need a bit more light for reversing.

My turn for rear upper wishbones

This weekend i had to tackle my upper rear wishbones ahead of next months MOT.

I trimmed down a 15Mm multipoint socket in order to crack the difficult top bolt. Whilst i did loosen the bolt with a breaker bar and a small length of pipe, like most common issues the bolt was frozen to the bush's inner race and span.

in the end i cut the wishbone below the bracket for the brake pipe, cut the brake pipe bracket from the wishbone and made two slices in the wishbone allowing me to split the wishbone bracket.

once split i could use a chisel and easily split the bush outer metal. cut away the old bush rubber and cut the bolt in half. this was all done with a 4inch grinder and a few discs as the discs needed to be changed in order to have the depth required.

the whole job took a few hours and i recommend the purchase of the 21 and 15mm flex head ratchet spanners. the cut down socket is useful for re-tightening. cut it down so you have around 8mm of land to grab the bolt head.

Finally got round to replacing the front diff oil today (did the rear 3 weeks ago), was just as black as the rear so glad I did it.
While I had the protection off I decided I might as well do an oil and filter change, happy I did, oil that came out was as ā€œblack as a black thingā€ so left it to drain for half hour while I went and got some and a fresh drain plug & filter. On filling it took around 5.5l to show full on the dipstick. Will take it for a short drive tomorrow and top up if required.

Treated the Grey Shark to an oil change today, and stuck the winter tyres on. Washed and polished the rims, as the previous owner had neglected them Embarassed
Soon coming up: change belts, oil pump and flushing the gearbox...
