I cleaned mine today with only 75000km and it was fully gunked up like all the photos
cleaned it up with a spray from repco designed for map and air flow sensors
My D3 has been cutting out on steep hills and over taking cars
with codes P132B turbo boost control A
and PO23D+P0101 map sensor
cleared the codes and will take for a run tomorrow
hope it helps!

Started the engine yesterday evening for a drive...
Right after the engine began to run it sounded really different, it rustled and did not run very smooth. but after some meters of driving it got very smooth.
Does it have to "learn" the new values from the sensor? I took it for a 20km drive and was astonished. It drove very good!

Cleaned mine yesterday it was very gunky.
08MY XS D3 with 54,000 miles on clock, I have had it since Jan 13 and done 12,000 miles
I add 40ml of 2 stroke per fill of diesel so it will be interesting to see in 5k or so how the sensor looks
Since cleaning she does seem to pull more smoothly from low revs but that maybe just wishful thinking ie the placebo effect

Finally got around to checking and cleaning mine today. Owned the D3 since Dec and don't know if it had been done before. Now on 113k miles.
After 10 minutes in the rain trying to find the torx screw to remove the cover and getting wet and frustrated. I have it a little yank and it popped off. How stupid did I feel.
Sensor out and it looks like this.

And cleaned after. I only wiped it clean what spray cleaner have people used as there is still some crud in the hole.

Cheers.

Thought I would have a look at mine even though it has only done 35,000 I do run 2 stroke oil and was getting around 30/33mpg on the dash. It was some wet oily sludge on it not what you would consider dirty but I gave it a clean with wd40 and without doing anything else to it even the same tank of fuel so its not better fuel or more oil on a run I got 36mpg on the dash and return journey was bog standard Esso fuel with no 2 stroke and still got 33mpg not sure what to make of that but that's what I got.

The old girl may have been clocked.....
Still cleaned the sensors and it does make a difference IMO...
Actual mileage is 176,000 and no idea if it was ever done before .... seems smoother and more responsive ... good post and write up ...

Gunky MAP sensor
Read this thread with interest so thought I'd check out my own as fuel economy is a pretty horrendous 22mpg (though to be fair, I only do very short journey work in the main). Model is 57 plate D3, non-blanked EGR's with just 40k on the clock. No images to show but, as others have illustrated, huge amount of gunk on exterior and completely blocked orifice, subsequently cleaned out with a combination of WD40 and electrical switch cleaner. This was sprayed in until found to run clear, then shaken out and refitted after being left to dry out for a couple of minutes.
Have yet to take the car out to see what changes are apparent if any, but have tintent towing job to do in a couple of days, so will report back soonest.
Also saw reference to using Shell V Power over supermarket diesel with a view to improving MPG. Anyone have any experience of this as I'd rather ditch the Nectar points in favour of better running costs?I'm off to a party with the RNLI tonight. They may not get together very often, but when they do, they certainly know how to push the boat out.
Remarkable amount of crud and aperture almost blocked. Next stop - EGR blanking in the morning!

I did a (very unscientific) comparison here http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic99250.html?highlight=Nitro using the trip computer....but I have found the 3.0 is more sensitive to "premium" fuels than the 2.7......anyway I'm too tight so stick to cheap Tesco diesel "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Obvious question but now that the 3.0 lumps have been out there for a while, how are their MAP sensors looking? They don't seem to be having the same problems with EGRs but have they just passed the problem further down the line?
