Hey guys, is there anyone who runs a garage...or know's who runs a garage in the midlands (preferably as close to Redditch as possible) who would be willing to undertake this repair?
All the 4x4/landrover "specialists" say they "wouldn't get involved with that" when it comes to reparing, they only replace at the extortionate cost...

I have a garage who would be willing to give the instructions at beginning of this thread a shot - but haven't done one before. Am I safe to use emergency release so I can get car to them?

Usually works but my lord take note of how unbelievably hard you have to pull on the thing to. No really, that hard. No, harder than that. No trust me, even harder than that again.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

epb
Hi , been reading the posts on the epb issues, and prepping myself for the task ! Just one query how far back do you wind the brass splined piece ? At the moment mine is still working, just gives a screech now and then , especially when parking on hills .had new shoes and discs fitted 6 months ago, but I don't think (pretty sure it wasn't) the module was reset.

You don't need to do that if yours is still working. You just need to strip, clean and adjust the shoes and do it before it does jam.IID PRO

That's what I thought to start with, but I reckon I could be running out of travel in the module ,hence the screeching now and then, also it will be piece of mind to know its all good in there!

Lot of work for nothing though. Like armalites said strip it ,clean and adjust before it wrecks itself and save a lot of hassle

So when the garage sold us this car, they said they'd replaced some brake pads due to a light coming on and them needing doing. From what I've read, the big problem here is they don't do anything with the shoes and adjusting the EPB stuff as per bodsys brake bible - is that basically why it's jammed now?
The emergency thing was easy to pull and the car is now mobile, less a handbrake...and I'm taking it to a garage tomorrow. I should ask them to follow this guide for unjamming, and also look to replacing / refitting / clean / calibrating everything around the epb and the brake shoes right...as the most probable underlying cause?

Is there anything else not mentioned in this guide that the garage will have to do to "re-attach" anything now that I've pulled the emergency release?

My EPB screeched on occasion. I stripped, cleaned and properly adjusted the shoes. Job done, no more screeching. I was surprised to find that when the last set of new shoes were fitted, the adjusters were left fully wound in. It's a wonder the EPB worked at all. Now the EPB motor runs for 1/2 a second instead of the 2 seconds it had been running for, trying to take up all the slack.Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

EPB rebuild cometh
Made my first mishtake by cleaning the car yesterday car and today SWMBO stranded after school run when EPB siezed
I drove to her and after a quick tug (at the emergency release cord) and she was on her way again.
So in the meantime I've taped the EPB switch so I'm not tempted to use it but as a man with limited garage skills (and tools) do you think this is a task for my local (trusted) independent ... or should I, in true disco3.co.uk spirit, have a go myself.
