I too have a non-functional epb and am thinking about whether to attempt an unjam. I have an electronic rear differential and an lpg tank in the spare wheel well. Will I be able to get access to the module without needing to take half the car apart? My indie has said we can have a try with the vehicle on the lift.

In fact, if someone is able to point out where the module is on the pictures below, that would be appreciated...

Can't be seen from these angles, you need to go further forward and look back above the differential.

I can't remove the cover with the module in place as the screws have rusted away. I was going to remove the module and fix it on the bench but I can't get the handbrake cables to detach from the hub are they just push in and have just rusted solid, if so do you have any tips on how to get them out? Or can the cables be detached from the module end?

So I have the cover off, cable is still attached, winder is wound in (as in handbrake on) and I have tried to turn the brass looking spline that goes through the gearbox with a screwdriver. It will not turn. What am I getting wrong please? I have also tried unjamming with a Nannocom, a snapon scanner & JLR SDD. I cant remember which bit one said success & another said failed, but basically it has not worked. Please help & please tell me I don't have to take it all out. Banging Head Banging Head

If you pull the emergency detach cable, this should separate the cable from the driver side. unscrew the plastic cover where the cable goes in, Detach electrics plug, remove the exhaust heat shield, undo detach any cable retainers from the passenger side cable and emergency one. With the car jacked up on the chassis, there should then be enough room to manipulate it out through the wheel arch. have fun!!

Correction!! There aint no way its coming out through the wheel arch. When the cable is disconnected on the driver side. Remove heat shield, remove emergency cable from its retaining clips all the way back to under the EPB button & disconnect from floor there. Remove handbrake cable from retaining clips on the passenger side (left) & there will then be enough slack to get the module out from below.

When I tried it with the suspension at full streatch, the only way I could see that it may possibly come out that way is if the brake pipe was removed but even hen it looked sketchy.

A big thanks to Mikey for this guide - had a screaming module which wouldn't shut up after adjustment.

Turns out the cable had come loose from the offside shoe, took the cover off to see what was going on. I don't think it was quite jammed as I could wind it back with the IID Tool procedure and pull the cable end to get it refitted.

A fantastic guide, thanks for that. Absolutely spot on.

Just to confirm that the spindle in the EPB module did need an enormous whack to get it freed off, probably the most difficult part of the job on axle stands I thought......

A few things I can add to this super guide
1) spend a while releasing all of the brackets as some of the bolts will jam and this is an easier task if not under time pressure of having the rest of the car in pieces
2) When removing the module tie nylon string to the wheel end of the cables so that you can see the correct path when refitting. helps to be able to push & pull through some very tight places packed with other gubbins.

Hi guys,
would really appreciate your help here. Getting desperate about my EPB. First I had the screeching, continued using it until it was locked -> had to pull the emergency cable. Now, I have taken it out, replaced the plastic gears in the gearbox, stripped and adjusted the shoes. Was hoping that it would start working, but when I pull the epb switch it seems to go to end position, unscrews the LH cable, and nothing else happens. See video below.
What am I doing wrong?
