Hi, yeah I figured it out… after tapping the brass part a couple of times it was straightforward to manually wind it back I decided to wind it as far as it would go so I could ‘re-latch’ it.. think it just needs a trip to a garage to use the diagnostic machine to reset it…

My experience with this excellent EPB. I recently bought this car for my wife so have very little
knowledge of history. Previous owner had bought new disks and callipers as he said they get hot
and drag. I believe it was the parking brake that drag.
- When applied, got this dreadful sound
- Pulled drums and found out that pass side, no UK car shoes burned and lever frozen
- Bought new shoes and fitted those
- The dash displayed EPB error and GAP tool proposed "unjamming" that resulted is dreadful sound
- Opened the EPB box, and found out that it was NOT jammed
- With GAP cleared all errors, no EPB function
- Went thru all steps in GAP and cleared all errors, there was one Over temp error?
- EPB now working
Lesson learned; check and clear all errors Before opening the EPB box.

Thanks for this info on how to unjam the parking break. I now have it reattached but when I pull the handbrake the brass bar is spinning not up the threaded bar as if the car is only ever trying to take the handbrake off bit not put the handbrake on.... Of anyone could shed some light on this situation would be great.

Hi all,
I am trying, I really am, multiple hammers, multiple screwdrivers.
I was able to convince my wife to angle the EPB down while I whacked on it.
The dam brass rod is not moving.
I have disconnected both sides from their cables so so it can move in the slide, trying to get better purchase so the sides have latched together again.
I really don't want to have to remove the device from the car, I feel that is getting a little beyond me.
I don't mind it being hard to do, but there is just no progress right now.
Any suggestions?
Michael

Hiya, the mistake I initially made was trying to turn the wrong part of the ‘brass rod’ which wouldn’t budge!
I then tried turning the larger part (pictured and indicated with an arrow) this part was really easy to turn with a flat blade screwdriver…
Unless you have another ‘jamming’ issue just wind this one back as far as it will go, then manually re-attach the mechanism… (for specific info see the start of this thread).
Once I attached it, and it was reassembled and re-secured in situ, apply the hand brake and it ‘should’ be all good and working… well that was my experience…

Thanks Spook,
I can confirm it was the correct part i was attempting to turn.
After attempting to unjam the brass for 2 and a half days, decided it was faulty as we couldn't move it. Visited our local reputable wrecker yesterday and purchased a second hand unit to install.
This drive was 2 hours through peak hour
Ran a few errands later the evening and, as it is a habit, accidentally activated the park brake switch. Before this it would just click at me, suddenly more screaching again.
Got home and the unjam proceedure in Gap tool actually had all the right noises.....
So all my time and then also waiting until we spent money on a replacement the car suddenly decides to play ball and un jam itself...
Now I am working through getting the shoes back on and see how it goes getting adjusted.
Are there any tricks to installing the shoes? Like Bodsey mentions, it pays to have a third hand

Hi, that’s the joy of these beasts.. but upon reflection I think changing the whole unit along with all the cables etc is a REAL ball ache!
Anyway, your all sorted and perhaps your efforts were not in vain as your work may have been what was needed to get the gap tool to work..,
I did not need to change my shoes.. just the discs and the pads.. but upon changing them it initially knocked out the EPB…
There is a specific way to disable the EPB prior to replacing the brakes so I’d look back through this thread for guidance…(certainly wish I had first!)

Does anyone know if the IIDTool can wind back the brass rod, as I have replaced the shoes etc and adjusted them or do I need to open her up and do it manually?
Thanks

Tbh I’m not sure as I sorted the wind back manually prior to obtaining the IID tool, perhaps a calm to the IID tool ‘people’ may be insightful?
