United Kingdom 2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 GS Manual Unknown ColourDiscovery 3

Hello Marcsf

I recently opened mine up, just used a large-ish flat blade screwdriver to work loose on the bottom right hand corner (twisting it to prise open) then slipped in a pry bar and moved both round levering it open further until open enough to pull rest by hand

United Kingdom 2007 Discovery 3 TDV6 GS Manual Unknown ColourDiscovery 3

Hello Mikey (or anyone else)
I'm wondering if you can help. after having to use the emergency manual release when the epb was stuck on, I unjammed it using the guide and relatched on the drivers side, however the brake still doesn't operate - it doesn't even try to do anything automatically, says 'park brake fault lift switch to apply' (or similar) on the dash, when you lift the switch, the motor whirs for perhaps 20 seconds (not screaming), does move the brass coloured bar through someway but not doesn't go far enough to pull cables in, then amber light comes on.
Anything else i can do or would you say the module is stuffed? I didn't have a screaming problem beforehand and the manual release tug required was not unduly hard

cheers

Another one on here looking for help.

My EPB is not jammed on, I do get the screeching but it is intermittent, I have managed to limp home with a bit of good fortune and taking steps to minimise the use of the handbrake.

Can I use the IID tool to avoid having to take the module to bits, assuming the gears are ok?

If I were to move to latching position, adjust the shoes and then calibrate it might that resolve the issue? I have to fit new disks etc anyway so the above coupled with a good clean seems to me like it might work.

If I'm being unrealistically optimistic then I would rather do the full thing the first time than have to work on it twice.

If it is a constant screech, and the emergency release has NOT been pulled, then a strip, clran and adjust should suffice Thumbs Up

I resolved my screech when removing the key today. Thumbs Up

Mine is also a manual and I found that the EPB would try to apply for a second time when I removed the key from the ignition (normal behaviour for a manual, I understand).

I stripped it all down and fitted some new EPB shoes using this Borg & Beck kit from Advanced Factors:

http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/bs6416-ha...1674-p.asp

Only problem I found was that the fitting hole on the shoe for the EPB cable was not quite big enough to go through so I had to ream a small amount out using a 7mm HSS drill bit.

Adjusted the EPB as per workshop manual and bedded in the new EPB shoes using the EPB bedding-in mode on the car. Bedding-in mode didn't self-cancel after the 10th time on mine. Am assuming a different software version would self-cancel after the 10th time, DM?

Screech has now gone and I now feel confident about adjusting it again, should I need to.

A most satisfying outcome. Thumbs Up

The root cause of my failure turned out to be that the retaining pins for the spring clips had rusted through, still plenty of material though so new springs and clips (also from advanced factors) and a couple of hours labour (first time ever for me working with shoes) and all is right as rain.

Likely been like that for a while, had to ease the moving parts which had gone solid, all good now though

First off, thank you Mikey for another great post.
I would like to know if once this is all complete is it likely to stop the hdc issues? or will it need to go onto the computer after to reset ? cheers Mark

Well, coming home this evening our Disco has started to demonstrate EPB issues. Got the horrible squealing when trying to put the brake on at lights and flashing orange light, plus messages about park brake failure.

Tried the unjam function with the Nanocom and it just squeals a bit more and is still knackered. Car has a warranty so I'm torn whether I try to follow the advice on this thread or just get it all fixed/replaced...

At least it isn't jammed on.
 Cheers,

Gareth

If the warranty will cover it, have the module replaced Whistle

Exactly what I was thinking Mikey... Spoke to LRparts in Liverpool this afternoon (nice and handy for me) who gave me a rough idea of overall costs to replace the module and the shoes so now just need to call the warranty company and see what they say. Hoping they'll pay for most of it and I'll just have to cover the wear & tear stuff, such as shoes.

Geoff noticed one of the cv boots was going t'other week too so may get that done at the same time for convenience, instead of finding time to do it myself.
 Cheers,

Gareth

Hi Micky
We are having an issue on our discovery 3. Yesterday it started to whine when we tried to apply the epb, however later on it was ok then locked out? How long wil it take to check and adjust as per post your regarding this.

Thanks
