OK, lets leave it a week for people to read it and see if there's any other brainwaves that can come up with another approach.
Otherwise unless there is violent disagreement on the decision before then, it'll go to Team Goatriders, but lets see what happens in the next week.

As ever, balance of risk vs financial cost will be the driving force. On reflection I think Bodsy is right, nothing much will change from the current circumstances no matter what efforts are put in from forum members

Bodsy wrote:Ok, so getting these extra cases to me wont really help I don't think, other than to show LR we have more and more evidence to add to the 20+ oil pump cases I already have....
The re-design of the oil pump casing (now on its fourth version since changing to the EuIV engine) is evidence that there was something not quite right. The fourth version has been with us since 2009 and has not been changed since.
This indicates to me that the failure is a design characteristic issue and not a 'fault' with an item.......

if that is so, I end up not understand why MY07 many more failures than others, with the understanding that there is no MY exempt from the possibility of failing ... I think that somehow has to be related to the adoption of EUROIV in the first units...or not? lost in translation!

Ruben, I think as mentioned to you elsewhere, there are some instances of EuIII failures, but most of the failures really started appearing on EuIV engines. Maybe the additional engine power or perhaps just a different vibration or characteristic?
The upshot is, if you are having timing belts changed on EuIII or EuIV engines, change the oil pump case to the universal latest version. LR013487 Bodsys Brake Bible

Guys, it's a bit late now but in a former life I was an non destructive tester. As such I ve use to carry out x ray and dpi both in the petrol chemical industry and aerospace. I can probably swing it to get a few x rayed and can carry the dpi out myself. However if concerns were found we would probably need to go back through official channels as my tickets expired some time ago. I own an 07 D3 myself which had the belts and pump replaced prior to me buying the car. Do I don't have a suspect pump here.

DPI stands for dye penetrant inspection. It's used for finding flaws open at the surface in non ferrous metals ie cracks not visible to the naked eye

Hi,
I see these mentioned: EuIII or EuIV engines. Can anyone tell me how to identify if my engine is one of these?
Is it based on Vin or engine number or MY?
As I have to dismantle the front of mine to replace the Washer bottle, what is the minimum I need to do to see this casing and perhaps take a snap?
Thanks Cheers, Chris in Cambridge

Thanks
So I can assume my 06 plate registered September 06 will be EuIII?
My belts were changed 2 yrs and 8K ago (current 79K) sounds from the above I should be thinking of changing my casing, unless it was changed with the belts but I have no documentation to suggest it was since the belts were changed pre delivery when I bought in April 13.
Any hints as to how big a job it is to check visually?
Thanks Cheers, Chris in Cambridge
