Yes BBDisco3 I got the same script from the Service Tech when I first arrived as he said he had compared it to another Disco they had in and Temperatures were the same! then he said they compared against a New Rangie and that's where he noticed the temp difference so replaced the temp sensor and said that had done the trick ! but once reaching home and checking weather station etc.. it was still the 3 deg out ! the courtesy Disco I now have is the same 3 deg out !! Hoping the get it sorted or at the very least have a plan of action to resolve this issue or the temperature will be rising in the Dealership when I am in !

Not sure how this may also be affecting those functions which use outside temperature such as stop start, air con, heater etc.
It will have an effect as the temp values are used amongst other sensor readings to control equipment. What is important is that all those affected ensure that your dealer registers it specifically as customer concern even if they can't find anything "wrong". 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Also there are safety implications. The Ice warning will be delayed by 3 degrees.

I did raise the issue of it influencing other aspects and was assured they are not connected so all would be fine.

The sensor itself is a very simple component that changes resistance in line with temperature. The conversion of resistance to a displayed value is done via software.
Either the sensor resistance values are wrong (unlikely) or the vehicle software is using the wrong conversion values. It should be an easy fix for JLR if they can be bothered to correct the software.
The external temp is used for a variety of vehicle systems and will effect everything from the HEVAC, electrical power scheduling, battery charging, mirror de-icing, aux climate, FBH through to the engine performance. Of course, using an incorrect value will change the vehicle emissions, but surely no manufacturer would accidentally implement or fail to fix such an issue....

My 16MY is currently scheduled to return to have ineffective heating looked at - it (as someone else posted a couple of weeks ago) delivers colder and colder air as the journey progresses, ending up with the AC set at 27deg & still ineffective distribution of air.
Having read this thread, i checked it's temp display v other sources & yes, it's 3 degrees high. Apparently it's 17deg here today
... pehaps LR are indeed contributing to global warming
Robbie - interesting point re emissions, what effect would the 3 degrees have?Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!

I'll need to check mine. It said 7 degrees on Sunday night but it felt a dam site colder than that.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Thanks for your comments gents, having spoken to the Dealership technician today he informed me that the displayed temperature inside the vehicle is actually taken from two separate sensors the first being a temperature thermistor and the second and temp sensor on the air intake. The sensor on the air intake and the temp thermistor feeds back to the car software where they are supposed to give a true reading of ambient temp!! So either of these two sensor's could be faulty or calibrated wrongly giving this 3 deg discrepancy! The technician has passed on my comments and findings to the Men in white coats at Land Rover ! Where I eagerly await feedback!!!

Odd ...can't find the relevance of the air intake thermistor in this case ...it doesn't feature in the description of operation for the ambient temperature sensor display ..either mechanically or in the wiring diagrams....could be wrong though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

What we really need to do here is get a selection of Discoveries, from various model years together, and compare the readings.
Ice Fest in January might be an opportunity, I could bring my 2013 model? Anyone coming with a 2016?

Please tell me you're going to do more than compare temperature readouts at this ice fest thingy
