Looks like the D5 will slot perfectly into the X5, XC90 competition bracket, and priced similarly.
Its looks are certainly more to the taste of those looking at the competitors products.
Range Rover Products being a cut above & priced above...
A D5 £55k starting point would put them level with BMW X5, Merc GLE, Volvo XC90 equivalents...
Certainly would not rule it out as a replacement for my D4 Landmark come the time, but I will have had a good test drive and kicked the tyres on a D5 by then

X5 entry level is £45k, XC90 is £47k so I imagine £55k for entry level D5 is way too steep.

Such a shame that it's followed the X5 / XC90 route. I bought mine because it was different and not a clone

So what will you replace your D4 with as I cannot see a lot out there that will do what a LR does in any guise MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Just heard from my dealer, RRS to get 2.0d at 240hp. Not sure if I'm supposed to say or not.
EDIT- I'm off the hook it's in Autocar. 0-60 in 8.0s and badged as an SD4 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I shall hang on to the D4 for as long as is practical, or at least until my needs change and then I'll move on to something else - though the current FFRR looks good!
This will be the 6th time that I've found a car that's brilliant at doing exactly what I need and then the manufacturer has then gone and messed the replacement up and I've had to move away from them completely. One type of car was so good (Citroen XM estate), that I bought the replacement (C5 estate), despite every one of my senses telling me that it was an evil pile of poo! Guess what? It turned out to be an evil pile of poo  Lesson learned! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

It's on the official Land Rover website now too, tbh the fuel economy is not that much better but the emissions are down to 164g/km. With a manual gearbox in the Discovery 5 those figures should improve. 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Same thing happened with the Nissan Primera, the last model of that was rubbish compared with the earlier models, and it died out because of the messy reboot! 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

I've done that with Mercedes and Volvo too - so they all do it.
Seems to happen when marketing get more powerful than design?

A franchised dealership in Ireland tells me that they are expecting the local models to feature the 2.0 SD4 engine with a choice of six speed manual or nine speed auto, the manual version will be capable of around 60mpg on a good open road run. And there will be five and seven seat versions too. Build starts September 1st but realistically no models will arrive into Ireland until late December for January registration. 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial
