This is a bit of a 1 man thread now but hopefully I will get a response...
I have run a new cable from my camera to my screen with at best a marginal improvement in picture quality but its still unusable which suggests the problem lies with the camera itself. It was a numberplate light replacement one which I cut down to fit in the actual camera hole so possibly I have caused the problem. Any recommendations for a reverse camera? Is the LR genuine one worth the extra money? Are there any which other aftermarket ones which fit in the existing camera hole? Should I just buy another numberplate light one and not cut it down? Main purpose of the camera is for reversing onto trailers so I would like to be able to see the tow ball if possible, even if this means a bit of adjusting at the installation angle.
Update from ages ago - fitted a new cheapie eBay camera and it works brilliant. So the issue was my expensive camera all along. Either it was just crap or I damaged it when I cut it down to size.
2011 D4 XS - OBD port protection, RLD spare wheel protector, All LED interiors lights, Timed Climate enabled, iiD tool paired.
2011 D4 Landmark - Stolen from same dealer before I paid for it
2011 D4 GS - Stolen whilst at dealer ... All LED interiors lights, DRLs, Spare Wheel protector.
1996 300Tdi - Eaten by tin worms
The exact one isn't available from the seller I used but something along these lines: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/sis.html?_nkw=Mi...749.l2658. basically a 360 CCD HD camera. It doesn't look too far back but does get the towball. Don't have a photo of the image at the mo but can get one if you want

I have a 2013 XS and would like to add a camera, but being a tight i dont want to pay ££££ on genuine LR camera, looms, cables etc.
What is the best after market (ebay ) camera to buy which will show the tow bar too?
I work in electronics so can make up my own cables. Does anyone know which connectors i need to complete?
I believe you need a fakra connection to go in to the back of the screen for a 2013 car. Don't know about "best" but see my link above. That's what I used and its grand though needs a bit of creative installation under the boot handle to get the towbar included in the view. Not sure if the number plate light replacement ones will include a view of the towbar.

As I understand it if you have the popup dial for gear change then you have a Fakra connection on your head unit and on the end of the cable under the lower centre console. If not then the connector is a pinned type and quite different. If you have Fakra, use a 'Z' type (unkeyed) that's the easiest way. This will get you from head unit to cable under console.
There is another Fakra male (IIRC) in the head lining at the tailgate, passenger side. Same idea would apply. I just bought the factory looms just because it was easier as it also provides power to the camera from the tailgate switch.
Then edited the car CCF with my iid tool to enable. An easy mornings work.

Hi Guys,
Just want to correct something I posted earlier
The fakra connector at the back of the screen is the PURPLE coloured one - which is 4th from the right NOT 3rd as I previously posted.
Connector C2820 in the drawing.
Must find out how to post some pics
They are in my gallery - if you want to look.
Sorry for any confusion - hope this is clear

Guys
Quick question
I have been used to surround cameras and tow assist. Can I retro fit a camera to a 16 plate D4. That will give me the curvy lines and chsnge to look at tow hitch as I get close ?
Thanks

Hi all, can someone bring me up to speed with who/what ‘TLO’ is for the parts required that are listed early on in this post?
Thanks
