Ah disco Mikey/ super guru. How I love your presence. Bow down Bow down Bodsy told me to contact you but thought I would play it cool and hope you replied on here first.

This is my other thread which goes into more detail.
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic137004.html
I didn't want to clog up your unjam thread as having read through it several times before I attempted the unjam, adding extra reading for someone else just wasn't right.

So yes iid tool. I can get the module to do the unjam process but it won't do the latch or mount process.

I will get the fault code later but it starts with a U.

Many thanks

Simon

Great thread. Just freed off and reset my handbrake module. Already had the module changed once a few years ago. Saved the best part of £1k using the guide doing over two days as rain stopped play. Now to get it through the mot......

I'm about to attempt this later this week. My rear disks have a reasonable lip on them so I'm going to replace the rear disks, pads and epb shoes at the same time. Looks really fiddly to get to the epb module, can't say I'm looking forward to it.

Well pleased to say with all the help from the forum and great explaining , I managed to tackle this horrible contract ... I went for spare wheel option then took four ten mm bracket bolts out 2 came out and 2 I had to cut the heads off .. Then flipped the unit took cover bolts out .. And that cover is really stuck prized it open with a screw driver . I cable tied a big block of wood to the rear of the unit then 2 taps with a screw driver and she became Un jammed wound it back , latched it on gave it quick test and she works like a dream ... Then bolted it all back together

And managed to do it on car ramps also

Thanks so much for tech advise

I had my car in with the garage today and they were unable to unjam with the diagnostics. Recommended a new module. I got the car up on a 2 post lift myself this evening and with the instructions here the module is working perfectly again.

Not only have I saved a chunk of money but I also have a great feeling of satisfaction.

Thanks Disco Mikey I owe you. Bow down

Had the terrible screach....
When applying the the brakes did not realease.
Pulled the cable and relsed the brake shoes.
Unfortunately the the parking brake was applied again and did not release.
Fidddled with IID unjam and release on the lever. Finally got the parkingbrake to release.

Then disaster. Front caliper started to leak.
Towing to workshop and decided to renew all brake discs and pads and parking brake shoes as well as front lower wishbones.

Anyway.
Mechanic changed everything and managed to get parking brake to release when changing everything.
Never got the parkingbrake to work. Said he had to change module.
He said he never got it to unwind enough.
Parking brake shoes not applied and I can drive the car temporarily.
Red P flashing and the message is Parkbrake off. Lift switch to apply.
Have done IID unjam procedure and it sounds OK.
Do not dare to apply the parking brake as I am far away from the mechanic. Afraid of locking it and not being able to release.

Advice from all you experts...
Can I apply the parking brake without danger of not being able to release?
Do you think it is necesary to get in to the module and unwind manually?
Is there a way to get the mechanism to unwind completely without getting into the module?
After all this are the cables attached to the winding mechanism in the module?
Can I turn off the flashing P until getting to the mechanic again?

All advice received with thanks.

Just to add to Mikey's excellent post, I have had the usual EPB problem with the module jammed tight, caused by disintegrated shoes.

In this stiuation the module then goes to it's full extent and winds in the brake cable TIGHT! It won't undo using the diagnostic mode, you have to physically turn the brass ferrule by hand using a grip (Gordon wrench etc.). It really does jam up quite tight. Once you've freed it off you can then use the diagnostic tool to wind it back to a sensible position.

If I've repeated something that you already know, I apologise. It's just that I found this out yesterday and have corrected the fault. This unit will now be a spare as I have ordered a new OEM one from, believe it or not, a LR dealer in Exeter for just under £415.00 including VAT and delivery.

Maybe I was a bit hasty in getting a new module but as I'm upgrading all the braking system to V8 it seemed sensible to do the whole shebang.

Got hold of a new actuator with cables here in Sweden. Just €250.
Mechanic changed everything.
And presto it works.
Was a little worried that the the red lamp was flashing. But after resetting the accelarator everithing is fine.
Have not yet had time to dismantle the old actuator. Probably I can just rewind it and it will work. If so it is for sale cheaply.

Hi Mikey,
My EPB is in the jammed position. I've read your post about sorting it out, but I have a question.

You say the brass rod need to be wound back on the threaded rod. Mine seems to either be well and truly jammed on the end or I'm just being a wuss and not trying hard enough to turn the rod downwards.

How much force does it need and what tool did you use?

thanks,
